// BRIEFING

From “swamp gas” to sworn testimony

For decades, talking about UFOs could end a career. Then, in December 2017, the New York Times revealed that the Pentagon had been secretly studying them. Since then, the U.S. Navy has confirmed videos of unidentified objects, Congress has held public hearings, a whistleblower has testified under oath about recovered non-human craft, and the government has begun releasing its files.

Nobody has yet produced public proof of alien life. But the conversation has moved from the fringe to the floor of the U.S. Congress. This site lays out the record — and lets you judge for yourself.

    The whistleblower hearing

    House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security · Grusch, Fravor, Graves

    Under oath, David Grusch says the U.S. has recovered craft of non-human origin and “biologics”. Cmdr. David Fravor describes the Tic Tac. Ryan Graves calls UAP a flight-safety issue. The Pentagon denies Grusch’s claims.

    “The Tic Tac object we engaged in 2004 was far superior to anything that we had at the time, have today, or [are] looking to develop in the next 10 years.” — Cmdr. David Fravor

    The People Behind Disclosure

    // 07 — WEIGH THE EVIDENCE

    Explained vs. Unexplained

    Good disclosure means looking at both sides.

    What most sightings turn out to be

    • Balloons — the single biggest category in government reports.
    • Drones — increasingly common since the 2010s.
    • Satellites — e.g. Starlink “trains” of moving lights.
    • Aircraft & flares — seen from unusual angles or at night.
    • Birds, planets & stars — Venus is a classic.
    • Sensor artifacts — glare, parallax and camera rotation can make ordinary objects look impossible.
    “AARO found no evidence that any USG investigation … has confirmed that any sighting of a UAP represented extraterrestrial technology.” — AARO Historical Record Report, 2024

    Why the mystery won’t go away

    • Multi-sensor cases — radar, infrared and trained eyewitnesses agreeing on the same object.
    • Reported performance — sudden acceleration, no visible propulsion, no wings, hovering in high winds.
    • Credible witnesses — military pilots, radar operators and intelligence officials, under oath.
    • Unresolved reports — hundreds of government cases remain “uncharacterized”.
    • Secrecy — decades of classification, and whistleblowers alleging hidden programs.
    • Congress — bipartisan lawmakers continue to push for full records release.
    “UAP clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to U.S. national security.” — ODNI Preliminary Assessment, 2021
